Mental health challenges in the workplace are increasingly concerning, particularly among the dedicated individuals in Alberta's charitable sector who are on the frontline of addressing complex social issues. Recognizing this urgent need, ATB Financial and GreenShield (two BCCCC members) are proud to announce a ground-breaking partnership aimed at delivering essential mental health support to the one in twenty Albertans working in this vital sector.
The project will begin with a two-year pilot phase, providing quality and tailored mental health support, including virtual therapy and Digital Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Outcomes and learnings will inform future work to further impact those working in the social sector. World Mental Health Day on October 10th serves as a powerful reminder to prioritize mental health for everyone.
"The challenges faced by those on the frontlines—those who tirelessly support our most vulnerable communities—demand urgent attention and action. A staggering 68% of social sector leaders report a surge in demand for their services. By investing in the mental health and wellness of social sector employees, we are not only supporting these incredible individuals but also reinforcing the foundation of a stronger, more compassionate Alberta," stated Barb Sundquist, Vice President ESG at ATB Financial.
"As a proudly Canadian nonprofit health and benefits company, our mission of Better Health for All has been our driving force for nearly 70 years," says Mandy Mail, Executive Vice President, GreenShield Cares. "We are inspired by the values and commitment of those working in the social sector. We recognize the challenges they face in balancing increasing demands with constrained resources. That's why we are honoured to partner with ATB Financial to offer free mental health services, supporting resilience within Alberta's social sector."

Point32Health Foundation recently announced grants totaling $230,000 to support nonprofit organizations in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. These investments advance civic engagement and equity in aging. In addition, the Foundation board committed significant resources over the next five years through its endowment to support social and racial justice work around the region. Investments in community-based organizations will begin in 2025.
“We know that for our company to be strong, the places where we live and work also must thrive,” said Greg Shell, chair of the Point32Health Foundation board of directors and vice chair of board for the parent company, Point32Health. “This long-term commitment through our endowment to social and racial justice, as well as these new grants, signal our values and how we prioritize engaging diverse voices of people experiencing systemic barriers.” |

During the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Nike demonstrated its always-on commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive future of sport. In July, Nike and France’s National Sports Agency published a playbook through their Team Go Girls initiative, providing organizations across the country helpful guidance in removing barriers that girls face when accessing sport.
Nike is continuing its involvement with the Olympic Refuge Foundation through a project that offers sport clubs in the Paris area training on how to best provide safe experiences for all individuals and increase access to sport for recently arrived refugees.
Finally, Nike’s new career program, GameOn, is designed to expand and develop the talent pipeline of individuals who pursue careers in sports by providing meaningful work experience for all athletes, including those with disabilities. |
